This is my first year mentoring another teacher and it has definitely taught me just as much as I hope my mentee is learning. My mentee and I regularly talk and collaborate on classroom management and lesson planning. As a mentor, I try really hard to keep a positive attitude and outlook so that I can pass this along to my mentee. We focus a lot on classroom behaviors and maintaining a positive and constructive atmosphere while keeping routines and procedures in place as well. We have also planned together and I try to make sure that not only is she getting what she needs, but that her students are the ones that benefit the most from our planning and collaboration. I truly have learned a lot from the support we’ve received and my mentee teaches me lessons as well so that in helping her, it is helping me grow as a teacher.
