Big Ideas raise individual standards to a higher level so that students can learn mathematics as a meaningful subject of connected ideas. This approach has been shown by research to engage students and increase achievement and is the best approach for teaching heterogeneous groups of students. I appreciated the perspective and resources that were provided during this training. I loved how they encourage teachers to tell their students to embraces struggles and to encourage it! We all have times of fixed mindsets, and that when students say “this is hard!” encourage them by saying “great! That means your brain is working and learning”.
I really like this training. I enjoyed learning about math from the bigger picture instead of skill by skill.
