Mentor Spotlight:
Danyale Pace
Thank you, Ms. Pace for sharing your insights with us! Ls UP!
What is something you enjoy about being a mentor?
One thing I enjoy about being a mentor is having the opportunity to grow other educators in particular areas that I work closely with while at the same time growing myself with skills needed for other leadership and guidance opportunities.
What is a strategy you’ve used to support your novice teacher that you feel has been effective?
Frequent check-ins. I know that after observing and discussing opportunities for growth and setting goals, checking in to make sure certain things are addressed and novice teachers are supported, helps me help them.
Describe how mentoring and coaching are impacting your novice teacher and/or their students?
Mentoring is impacting my novice teachers and their students by creating a better teaching and learning environment. When my teachers feel supported, students will feel supported. That directly benefits my novice teacher feeling more comfortable in their goals because it positively affects their instruction.
How has mentoring and coaching impacted you?
Mentoring and coaching has impacted me by giving me more of a sense of purpose in my role as an educator. I’ve spent the last years impacting the lives of students. Now I have the opportunity to impact the lives of adults. It may seem like a small thing or a tedious task, but in reality, growing other teachers can indirectly grow our campus. I am very on board with growing our school community.
