The AVID summer institute was helpful overall. I learned more on the actual tutorial process and how to teach the students to correctly fill out a TRF. Those were some of my struggles from the previous year. We also learned a variety of strategies to use in the classroom to help the students and tutors become more involved. The only dislike that I had about the professional development was it was very similar to the previous year of AVID Elective, when I was under the impression it was going to be strictly about Tutorials.

It was professional development about the AVID strategies that can also be utilized in other content areas. We were shown how to implement them as well as got to talk to current AVID students and ask any questions we had. They even had notebook and binders to show us their actual use of them. At Irons they encourage us to use WICOR strategies as well and the AVID training taught us WICOR along with different ideas on how to use them.
